The School of Management Studies is one of the oldest academic units of the University. It was conceived with an aim to promote management education, way back in the year 1961. Being one among the first five management schools to be established in the country, it started functioning in the premises of the Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd. (FACT) in October 1964 as a part of Kerala University with Professor Emeritus (Dr.) M.V.Pylee as the director. When University of Cochin was formed in the year 1971 (which later became Cochin University of Science and Technology) the school became an integral part of the University. Since then, the school has striven tirelessly in pursuit of excellence in management education and is celebrating its 45th year.

The School has been ranked as one among the top 50 Business Schools in the country. The school is relentlessly pursuing its aim of teaching, training, research and consultancy. With this aim in mind, it offers a variety of courses. They are Four Semester MBA(Full Time),four semester MIB(Master of International Business), Four semester MBA(Travel and Tourism),six semester part-time MBA program, two semester MPhil program and PhD program. IT also conducts management Management Development Programs and undertakes consultancy projects. Currently the school offers electives in the areas of Marketing, Finance, Systems and Operations and Human Resource Management.

The pedagogy includes lectures, seminars, case studies, one month long organizational study, project in the final semester, Talentime-our very own management fest and national seminars. The faculty of School has published over 40 books and about 50 research papers in journals of standing. Thus the school has evolved with changing times with effectively moulding managers for mankind.
